When Rep. Bob Nance was elected to the Missouri House of Representatives in 2004, he was the first republican elected to the House from the 36th Legislative District in recent memory. Rep. Nance's election to the Missouri House coincided with the beginning of a deep conservative take-over of Missouri's political apparatus. Matt Blunt was elected governor, Rod Jetton was selected to be the Speaker of the House and Nance was suddenly a rising star in the Republican Party. Defeating a democratic incumbent in the 36th legislative district as a republican is miraculous. Shortly thereafter, Jetton and Nance became close.
